About the course

HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a nationally recognised unit of competency that equips you with the essential skills and knowledge to respond to cardiac emergencies. This course meets workplace requirements and is suitable for anyone who needs to learn or refresh their CPR skills for employment, study, or personal reasons.

COURSE OUTLINE

  • Recognising Emergencies – Learn how to identify when CPR is required and assess an emergency situation.

  • Safe Work Practices – Understand infection control, duty of care, and how to ensure your own safety while providing help.

  • Cardiac Emergencies – Gain knowledge of how the heart works, signs of cardiac arrest, and common causes.

  • Performing CPR – Practical training in delivering chest compressions and rescue breaths in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

  • Using an AED – Hands-on practice with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including placement, operation, and safety considerations.

  • Special Considerations – Adapt CPR techniques for infants, children, and special circumstances.

  • Post-Emergency Procedures – Learn how to hand over to emergency services and accurately complete incident documentation.
